Re: Exhaust tube????

Howdy,

I have a boat that used to have a King Cobra on the back. My brother bought it new and it came with thru-hull exhaust.

About 15 years ago he had a Corsa Capt Call system put on it and the guy that installed had to install an OEM Y-tube for the thru prop part of the exhaust since it had thru-hull from the factory.

I got the boat in 2005 from my brother and asked him why it didn't have an exhaust bellows and he said "whats an exhaust bellows?".... He probably ran the boat for maybe 12 years without any exhaust bellows at all....it didn't seem to hurt it.

I did fix it though....Right after I put the exhaust bellows on it....I ran it 1 summer and then that following Winter I pulled the whole mess out.

It did seem to be a little quieter with the exhaust actually (finally) going out thru the prop though...

Regards,

Rick

No more possibility of water reversion that what you have now, really.

You could take the exhaust bellows off completely and leave it that way.

It will not be an exact comparision, since the exhaust tube sort of "seals" at full down trim and doesn't pull away until you trim it up a ways. The difference in sound on my 5.7 B3 is not really that great, but both my wife and I can hear it, and that's when we know we have it trimmed where we want.

so if i just go outside and take that lower boot off, there isnt going to be any water reversion even backing up or tied up at the gravel pit when wakes come in?

Backing shouldn't be an issue,... The motor will be running....

Big Wake,..??..?? Just make Sure the flapper valves are in Good shape.....

Re: Exhaust tube????

The exhaust flapper can only stop so much from waves hitting the boat. When the drive is up with an exhaust bellows or tube, the water has to flow into the prop, make a 90? turn up the exhaust passage in the drive then another 90? turn into the bellows. From there it has to get past the flappers with what is left.
Now, if you have an exhaust tube, the boat is beached with the drive up, a wave just has to enter the exhaust tube and get past the flappers. NO 90? turns to slow the water down.
It may not happen at all, or it could happen every time. Don't know.
