Exporting engine parts from the US?

Hello!

Well i have a different type of question, hope someone with exporting / law knowledge will show up and help me out of this one :D Ok, here's the story: I've been buying marine parts in the US & selling them in Europe for some time now, but every time the company where i bought the parts handled the export. Now, this time I decided to import a bigger / heavier shipment (manifolds, elbows, starters...) and chose ebasicpower (been doing some business with them in the past). Now, ebasicpower handles export via FedEx only, and the trouble is that FedEx is expensive AS HELL when it comes to heavy shipments (my shipment is around 500-700 lbs), so I arranged transport with a freight forwarder (RDU EXPEDITORS). They request that a document (SLI - shipper's letter of instructions) is signed by Ebasicpower, and they refuse to do it. Is there any other way to export the goods out of US? Ebasicpower will only provide a commercial invoice and the EIN number, but refuse to sign the SLI, as said...

Anyone?

Thanx in advance

I moved this over here as it really is more a general export topic than engine specific. I expect you'll get some good advice here. Good luck!

Typically, the customs people prefer that you hire a broker for large shipments.

Well, I DON'T want to use FedEx, cause they are waaaaaay to expensive; Ebasicpower on the other hand doesn't use any other logistic company. That's why I decided to use my own shipper - it's EXPEDITORS. I still can't get them to sign, cause they say that they won't take the responsibility to pay for shipping in case I don't pay for the transport... This is the first time anything like this happened. I'm thinking about hiring another firm to act as the exporter in order to get that SLI signed. Would that be a possibility?

Thanx

Well, we tried it once more. Ebasicpower REFUSES to sign those papers... Even with guarantees that they aren't liable for any costs that occur if we don't pay... Why is a big question that stays open... So, is there any 1 that can help me out? I need someone with a company who would act as the shipper... I would gladly pay for any expenses of course...

Thanx
