extending a TM shaft..I have a Minnkota replacement

I previously owned a Minnkota Powerdrive. It failed.

I was able to pick up a used 36 lb; 36 inch Minnkota transom mount TM. Both shafts are the same O.D.. It would be nice to have some additional length/height as I am using it at the front of my boat. I've already reversed the head. The 36 lb power is adequate for my use.

I know that I will have to extend the wiring. Has anyone switched out the shafts with success? What are the mounting arrangements on both the top and bottom of the units? Theaded? Or?????
