This motor has small black hoses that connect each cylinder wall to the reed valve chamber of each cylinder. also #5 hose is also connected to a hose that goes to the upper and lower bearings.
What is the purpose of these hoses and should #5 cylinder be connected to the hose that goes to the bearings? VRO has been disconnected.I'm looking for reasons for # 5 cylinder to keep going bad.I need some help on this one.

thanks
randall

Re: external hoses on 87 evinrude 200 looper

those are part of the recirculation system.
the ones you are talking about on the crankcase are valves. the ones by the cylinder are free flowing. the is a tool to clean them out.

the screw in fittings have little screens that can get clogged with debree.
.
the book says
- to take a syringe with a clear hose, fill with isopropyl alcohol, connect to fitting.
fluid should not pass through the fitting. if it does replace.
-draw out the syringe, and air should pass through the fitting. if not replace.
-
the check valves also have to be checked
really need to get a manual.
the problem i found with the manuals is that the earlier versions dont get into the recirculation as well as the later.

a 1994 "ER" gives a good description on how to do it.
a 1991 "EI" and below only gives you what i just did.
now the 1988 "CC" manual doesnt even give you a recirculator hose diagram.
if it was me i would go to ebay & try get the the year you need and look for the "ER" manual as well for future reference.
just trying to help
