Hi Everyone,

I am a fairly new boater and when I winterized by boat last year, I didnt drain the external oil tank. Is this critical? I know I should probably drain and refill the tank with fresh oil. By the way, the motor is a 2000 Johnny 115 HP. If I refill the tank, do I need to purge the oil line? Also, what is the best way to drain the tank? Thanks very much.

If there is no condensation just leave it alone, jhafner.

It doesn't age or spoil.

It does pose a problem if there happens to be moisture in the tank. That creates a problem with the VRO pump. Remove the tank, drain it, clean the filter and then refill it. Purge the line and you are good to go.

in spring: check filter in bottom of tank
replace if needed
if oil is suspect drain and refill (use a good QUALITY tcw3 oil) suggest johnson\evinrude xd-30 or better
run a tank of mixed gas thur motor to verify oil consumption then your good to go
do this service at least once per year and run a tank of mix after motor sits for long periods of time
this should be in owners manual if you don't have one order one from a dealer service manual may also be a wise investment
