Extra Purple Wire

I just replaced the rectifier on 1988 Johnson 120hp. when I put the wires back on I noticed there are 3 purple wires and the wiring diagram only shows 2. it looks like one from stator or timer base one from CDI/power pack and the third goes to a small plug which then leads to VRO, the VRO on this motor has been disconnected. I did not notice if all three were connected when I took it apart, do I connect this wire to the other purple wires. Also, it does not seem like the charging system is working and the tach still does not work. and above all...the motor still runs like crap.

One should come from the Rect/Reg, to the terminal board, one leaves to the VRO plug, just leave it connected, wont hurt anything, and I believe the other goes through the main harness for the voltage guage.
