if they would have invested some money into the marine stadium in key biscayne they could have this type of boat races there all the time. hope i'm not showing my age ,but i remember going with my dad to see similar races there.

Money for the Marine Stadium wasn't the issue. It's a shame, I raced there once. Pretty cool.

If money wasn't the issue for the Marine Stadium I am curious to know what was. They had some great events early on. Unfortunately Dade County contracts may services out to vendors who if they can't make a killing don't bid. "They" said after Andrew that it would cost too much to repair the stadium. Well they didn't repair it or rebuild it and now that wonderful asset is gone.

I feel a rant comming on - - -

When I first stated boating in Miami use of boat ramps was free. To use the ones at Crandon park you had to pay 50 cents for the toll. Now ramp fees are $10.00 and run close to $20 when you add the causway toll. Even at that there are not enough parking spaces on many weekend to get near the ramps that are there. Yes they have added some facilities but they are for the large in water yachts where they can get the big bucks. Spaeaking of bucks I checked a few years ago on what it would cost me to store my boat at Black Point - then it was over $250.00 PER MONTH (for a 23' boat)!! I would imagine it is a lot more now.

When I started boating there were two lifts open to the public to lift your boat off the trailer and drop it in/out of the water. Now there are none. Yes in beautiful Miami with access to some of the greatest boating in the world there is no where I can go to use a lift. I am getting older but can still deal with launching/retrieving from a ramp but there will come a time - - - -

Wheww - - that felt better. End of rant.

you should check out the price down here in the keys for the so called rack-a-miniums 100,000.00 for boat storage . not a type o or a lie either . and yes they are in key largo /marathon/key west.at least down here you can park your boat in front of your house and its perfectly legal other counties make you store them out of sight..
