Hi folks,
2005 F100. This is apparanty the same as F80 and F90.
I plan to remove the lower unit to replace the impeller soon.
How is the gear shift rod attached to the lower unit?

from what I can see in the workshop manual, it's not attached at all, and should just lift out.
last season I removed the lower unit on a DT40 and managed to damage the threaded connector on the shift rod.

The suzuki shift rod moves up/down.
The yamaha shift rod looks like it rotates instead, is that correct?

Re: F100 shift rod, lower unit removal

It is a splined slip fit. Shift shaft in the mid-section is female. Shift rod on the lower unit is male. And yes, the parts rotate to shift into and out of gear.

Just remove all of the lower unit attach bolts and the lower unit will (should) drop right down. Don't forget to grease both the shift rod splines and the drive shaft splines before reinstallation.
