I'm taking my Yamaha F100 carbs apart for cleaning. I understand that carb kits are recommended for the process. What excactly is in a carb kit for these motors that makes them cost so much? Dealers wants over $100 bucks a piece, online source is at $67. Is it just gaskets and rings?
Also, will I still need to have the carbs adjusted by a certified tech once I have them reassembled?

Thanks,
JayT

Breeze, Why are you taking the carbs apart and re-building them? Performance problem? Kits have necessary gaskets, o-rings, float needles and seats, etc. I wouldn't take them apart unless I had a definite carb problem and if you take them apart you need a shop manual if you don't have one. If you are just cleaning the carbs, minimally you need float chamber gaskets and maybe gaskets between the carb and intake manifold. Do a search on carburetors and you will find lots of info on them!!!

Ed,
Last year I had some bad fuel problems and took it into the shop for repair. (This is a 2000 model by the way). Motor would not idle due to clogged jets.Following their cleaning it was running OK, but about a month later it started developing a slight stall right at about 1800 rpm. It would actually die at that speed unless I continued to increase throttle to past 1850 1900 rpm, then it would be OK and reach full speeds. But I could tell that it was still not firing correctly. Changed the plugs; no difference. Figured that it must be one of the high speed jets that are clogged with debris from the bad fuel. Since it was over 30 days the shop said it would not be covered under their repair warranty and recommended rebuilding the carbs.
So far, I have not dissasembled the carbs, just removed them. Is it possible to clean out the clogged jets without taking them apart? I've already ordered the carb kits. I just figure that it was something I could do with the help of my relative auto mechanic rather than get charged $500 plus labor.

Thanks
