F115 - New bulb and fuel line

Replacing my primer bulb and fuel line due to deterioration. I noticed on the Yamaha site they sell it as two pieces. One outside and one inside the motor. There is a damper in between, right where it enters the motor.
Does anyone know why that's there? Or if it's needed? I was thinking I could run the line straight from the bulb to the filter and thought I had read others had done it that way.

Also,
Any opinion on Attwood or Moeller bulbs? And I'm going with 3/8".

Thanks

Well I assume that you have the sense to use a fuel/water separator on this engine on the east coast with the corn in the fuel(attracts water), so you should have the bulb at least a foot after and ABOVE that filter and then the line goes directly to the fuel filter mounted on front of engine. I don't know what you mean by 'damper', the line goes through the rigging grommet(be very careful when running new line with routing through here.....hope you went back with Yama fuel lines....cheap fuel lines rot very quickly.

Thanks,
Yes, I have the fuel/water seperator. On the break out of the fuel system for the F115TXRD it shows two pieces to the system. Outside-the bulb and line, inside line and damper, where the two mate inside the grommet.
I haven't done it yet.
I bought a Moeller bulb and line kit from West Marine, 3/8", the Yamaha is metric I believe, 8mm?. Are you saying I should only stick to a Yamaha OEM fuel line? I was going to run it straight to the filter inside.
