I am running an '02 F115. I have been told that the 10 micron fuel filter mounted on the port side of the engine in not adequate and that I should have a cannister filter installed in the fuel line. I would like to keep things simple. I would like some advice from someone with practical experience, even if it means getting yelled at by rodbolt.

Re: F115 Stock Fuel Filter

Did they change out the engine mounted fuel fitler assy to a 2006 or newer F115 filter assy? A stock F115 from 2002 model year will not have a 10mic under the cowling. It is a 28 or 30 mic. Mid year 2006 and newer F115's would have the 10 mic under the cowl.

If yours is original.....listen to your dealer and install a 10 mic in the boat.

Re: F115 Stock Fuel Filter

starting with about the 06 production run the F115 had a 10 micron inline filter between the pump outlet and the VST, it also used a canister filter with a 10 micron element and a water detect switch, your 02 can be upgraded but its kinda pricy, I would use the 10 micron 90 GPH water seperator mounted in the hull and change it often.
the inline filter is 60 dollars now :).

Thanks HC and Rodbolt. No one explained it like that. I thought I already had a 10 micron filter and didn't need another. I will be installing a transom mount filter.

Re: F115 Stock Fuel Filter

I installed a 10 micron canister filter like Rodbolt and HC suggested and everything seems to be fine. The small factory installed filter cartridge is from last season and I guess it should be replaced. Do I need to replace the cartridge or can I remove it and somehow run with an empty bowl since I now have a superior filter?

I am thinking I might need a hose from the filter pickup to the bottom of the bowl.
