Hello,
True or false:
There are passages in the Yamaha F115 that are impossible to drain (without removing the motor, turning it upside down and shaking it vigorously)and therefore the motor should be flushed with antifreeze prior to winter storage.
Thanks...W

false
as long as sand is not clogging a drain it will survive ok.
just leave it in the full trim down position.

Re: F115 Winter Storage

I have an F115 that I store in motor down position with cover over top of motor. When started in freezing conditions using muffs, I didn't notice that telltail was not present. Next thing I know is alarm goes off. Quickly turned motor off. Ran small wire up the pee hole and ice came out. After that no alarm.
Is there anything that can be done to avoid that?

follow the manual procedure that after drainng bump the motor over to clear any remaining water. also make sure there are no bends in any water lines. like the one for the hose flusher.

if you are in an area that freezes. start your engine and let it run for a minute or so, leave the cowl on and shut it down then let it heat soak. this has always worked for me clearing frozen lines in 4s outboards. always check if you have a telltale, if the temp has been low and you dont have one do the above. if that doesnt work try it again, if it still doesnt work you have a bigger problem to look at. patience is key.
perhaps someone needs to come up with an outboard version of the "plug in" for cars.
