Anyone have an opinon on how to keep your outboard when in the lift? I have a new 150 and didnt know if it mattered up or down? Will rain water get into or under the cowling? in the up position. There is that opening on the top back side of the cover and it seems that it would hold water.

Generally, you store o/b engines down. You lift the boat, engine is down, so engine drains. Now, why would you proceed to tilt the engine? What does this extra step accomplish?

The question should be: "Why should I take the extra step to tilt my engine up?"

Ok. I guess i should have said that my boat lift dosent go up high enough to keep the lower unit out of the water when the tide comes in. So ive been kicking it up to prevent this. Thanks again

Up, out of the water, for sure...don't forget to engage your tilt lock. You'll be fine! Good Luck!:)

Re: F150 Yamaha

the occasional dip in the water at high tide won't hurt anything. Keepnig it down will prevent freezing.
I keep my 150 tilted up b/c the boat is kept in the water. It seems to get a little rain water in the cowl but I don't see how that matters.

But if the point of a lift is to get the boat out of the water, seems you are cuttiing it close, should you have a storm tide, or big wakes, that might float the boat off or knock it catawumpus.

Your right about storm/high tides. I keep a couple of lines on her just in case. The expert?? that installed the lift, hung motors to low. Nothing much to do but keep an eye on tide charts. Thanks

IIRC your tides aren't too bad up there, plus being in more brackish water there's no issue in dipping the motor--except in the winter, it must stay down.
