Hey guys,
I run twin 2008 F250's. I pile up a lot of hours. First year of usage, we put 750 hours on the motors. They are great.
I was going through my manual and getting a parts list of things that I need to do. I came across the internal anodes. I replace the external anodes at the beginning of the season when I launch(around early March). I then replace them around September as they are getting worn down. They are then replaced in February when the boat is high and dry. I am not plugged in to shore power.
For the internals, I did a search on this and other message boards and can't find a straight answer about replacement. Many people don't even know about them. I had a set of 250 two strokes that I put a few thousand hours on and never replaced an internal anode. OK, to my point...should I replace these things or not? My tech is a master tech and he said every other year. I usually do all my yearly stuff(water pumps, t-stats, etc.) in September, so he suggested doing the internal anodes every other September. That being said, the boat is high and dry and I start getting nutty about stuff...obsessive compulsive!!! The manual says 1 year replacement on cylinder head anodes and 5 years on block anodes...they also say 500 hour on OCV filters and they looked perfect at 500 hours. They also say 300 hours on water pumps and I do mine around 700 hours and they still look decent. WHO KNOWS!
Sound reasonable to the tech guys on here?
Finally, how do you guys feel about the internal corrosion issue on 2008's? Do you think the new alloys in the dry exhaust and the coating will help??? I'd like to be able to put 5000 or more hours on these things, and will need to get more than 4 or 5 years out of the exhaust stack to do it!
