I have had a number of fuel related problems with my outboard since buying it. I want to start fresh and overhaul the entire fuel system. This would include replacing the tank, all hoses, all filters, and getting my injectors serviced as well as cleaning/replacing anything in-between that fuel travels through that may be passing garbage downstream. And to ensure the overhaul counts for something, I am also committed to using the boat more often to increase fuel-turnover.
I have some questions:
First of all, does this sound like a viable plan?
Some specific items I am wondering if they can be cleaned, or if they need to be replaced:
- fuel/water separator bracket head....and if yes, is there a difference between the SS vs aluminum
- float cup filter bracket head
- low pressure fuel pump
- the plastic fuel pipes
Do I need to do anything with the high-pressure pump inside the VST? (Pressure was good at last service, but not sure if it might be housing crap inside it that could cause a future issue).
Also, what is recommended for cleaning the VST tank of deposits?
I appreciate any help that can be provided.
