Factory carpeting question

I am replacing the carpet on a 1998 Crestliner Superhawk. The factory has divided up the floor into 3 tightly placed pieces of plywood. Each piece is individually carpeted with the carpet wrapping underneath and fastened. It would be easier and quicker for me to replace the carpet as one piece. My question, is there a reason or purpose the factory decided to carpet individual sections? Why would I do the same? I would be using adhesive under the entire carpet. Thanks in advance.

Re: Factory carpeting question

That's OEM for aluminum boats, it's so the decking can be removed without destroying the carpet and then placed back without having to buy new carpet and installing it. If you lay the carpet on decking that has already been installed in the boat you will cover the fasteners and you won't be able to access them later if you need to make repairs or modifications... plus you'll have to sand off all of the glue just to find the fasteners so you can remove the decking.

Even though the carpet is wrapped around the edges onto the back, it is still glued to the top side of the plywood too.
