Factory Fresh water flush adaptor

I was just wondering if anyone knows in what years did outboard manufactures (OMC, Suzuki...) Start installing the factory connection to run a garden hose directly into the motor for fresh water flushing, instead of using the muffs?

For the OMC 9.9/15hp it was new in 1993

My '98 Johnny has one. My '93 Merc doesn't.

Johnson and Evinrude came out with theirs in 1991.

I've got a 55-3HP Johnson with a flush cap. Never had it off but it is factory and looks smaller than a garden hose fitting. Rick.
