I have a red 1989 180 horizon, its red, I was putting on some polish about 2 years ago and as I was doing it, I looked back and noticed it was fading the paint. Now the side has a whitish cloudy look to it. Any suggestions on how to get it back, I've been hesitant to try anything else on it.

Hi I have a 94 258 Vista and one side is also doing the same thing. There is nothing you can do to fix it except sand, repaint and re gelcoat. However, if you sand it with some 3000 paper, get some polish and a buffer it will look pretty good for a couple of months then you have to do it again. That's my experience anyway.

I'm in the business.

EDIT: Advertising is not allowed on the boards

To both of you SAND ONLY as a last resort.

Get a commericial Buffer and I'll list the products to try. I'll almost guarantee one of these will work.

3M Finesses it II For very mild oxidation
3M Marine Fibergalss Cleaner & Wax # 09009 For a little heavier Oxidation
3M Marine Color/Glosss Restorer # 09089 For extrememly Bad Oxidation

Follow the instructions to the T and after the color is restored KEEP IT WAXED, WAX,WAX about three times Spring, Summer, early fall...Michigan Weather.

Now when you use these 3M products whichever you choose. Understand they are a Rubbing Compounds so they will thin your Gelcoat and so you don't want to use these products more than two or three times Maximum. That's why it's Extrememly important to keep the boat waxed or in two years you will be doing the same thing all over. It's NO PICNIC but fun to restore someone elses neglected boat and profitable for me too.

After using the 3M and last. I use McGuires Flagship Premium Boat wax. It's easy on and easy off. I put the wax on with a buffer and remove it mostly by hand it's so easy.

A boat your size 258 Vista your looking at around $1500 for me to do it. Of course I would have to see the boat first.

Remember a Commercial Buffer and keep it waxed after you get it cleaned and restored. I like to wait a week after the 3M process but most people want their boat yesterday. No what I mean.

One more important thing I almost forgot is the hull must be washed thoroughly before you start. Starbrite Hull Cleaner and a hose or pressure washer work well. Read the safety precautions on all products including the wax and heed them. they are put there for your safety. They most all contain Dangerous Chemicals To skin and eyes. Remember Wax, Wax, Wax. You must keep the suns UV rays from reaching the fiberglass ever again or you will be doing the same rubbing compound all over again.

3 out of your 4 posts say the same thing and it is real close to spamming.
You have been warned.

When I stated wax. I guess I should have been more clear. McGuires Flagship Premium contains no waxes or Carnauba wax, nor does Nu Finish. McGuires does have Polymers. Nu Finish states on the bottle for Clear Coat, Fiberglass and for Fiberglass Boats it also contains no waxes but doesn't mention anything about polymers. Both products recommend applying while object is cool and they both may be applied in full sunlight.
I would stay away from any product that contains wax and especially Carnauba wax. The colonite wax is a pure Carnauba wax and was and still is a favorite for many boaters but it will soon be extinct because of the Poliymer Technology.
McGuires Flagship Premium Marine Wax goes on so easy and comes off even easier. I think eventually the name "WAX" will be dropped from all Marine products since it really isn't a wax. They both are UV blockers and Marine Fiberglass Sealers.
I have a Boat and RV Color Restore busness "Chuck's Fiberglass" and the products I use. I know! will work. I'm reluctant to try new products because if they don't live up to their claim I've wasted both my money and my time (labor). Been there and done that before.
If BTS is as good as they say. Let them send me a sample bottle of their products and if they work I'll purchase, endorse and promote their products. Until then it's 3M for me and McGuires Flagship Premium Marine ......wax or Nu Finish.
