I found this site a couple weeks ago when looking for some parts. I have already learned a considerable amount of things in a short time. I thought I would go ahead and start a thread about the project I'm working on and a little background.
The boat I'm trying to restore is a 1959 Sportsman Cruiser with a mercury 650 on it. The boat orginally belonged to my grandfather, and I remember fishing in it as a kid. Due to some unfortuanate incidents, I pretty much lost contact with the family for the next 20 plus years. I've recently had the opportunity to reconnect which is where this boat comes in. My cousins became owners of this boat and it just sat for years, and I was asked if I'd be interested in owning it. My uncle is helping me to rebuild this and it will be a slow process for sure but my goal is to hopefully get it back on water for a few more fishing trips. Now for the pics, I'm sure I'll be asking many questions as I start on the journey of redoing this boat.
