I have spent the last few days laughing like mad at some of the posts here. Have yet to forget the plug (early days yet) but thought I would share this with you.

Some friends and I were out weekend before last at the basin (Man made lake). We locked our cars up on the beach and jumped in for a try of our new GeForce Biscuit. Offered to put mates car key on the boat keyring but he insisted it would be fine in his zipped up pocket (see where this is going :D ) Sure enough, come back into shore, he goes to unlock his car and surprise, surprise after bouncing around on the biscuit for an hour the key is gone

His car is brand new Ford with ignition that cant be hotwired. Calls the Auto service which tells him so. Only solution? Get a courier to drive the 2 1/2 hours up from Melbourne to collect the spare. Total Cost?? $300 dollars. Expensive lesson :D

Re: Famous disappearing key trick

I had a friend break the key to his car 225 miles from home. He had to borrow a car and go get his key. 550 miles round trip. Made for some good taunting though.

I was swimming in a large outdoor pool at a motel one night about 1:00 AM. I had one of those credit card keys in my swimsuit pocket. When I went to get out of the pool, I found it missing. This was a Disney resort at a convention so the lobby was pretty far away (campus environment). It took about 10 minutes, but I found the key on the bottom of the pool in the dark. I learned that lesson though.

Re: Famous disappearing key trick

Here's my family key story.

My 70 year old mother and her 5 sisters are having a reunion on a private island in Ontario. Once dropped off at the island by a water taxi, it occurs to my mother that she left the lights on in her car.

Having no phone or motor boat available, they decide to canoe the short distance to the marina where the car is parked.

About 50 feet from shore, the canoe is swamped by a passing boat's wake and the keys end up at the bottom of the lake.

Once back on shore they attempt to flag down a few people in passing boats (most of which waved back!). Eventually they make it to the marina and call for assistance.

Given the remoteness of the area they were in, it worked out cheaper to have a mechanic replace the entire ignition rather than have a spare key delivered.

Cheers.

Re: Famous disappearing key trick

We keep the keys on a hook at the house. Our conversation at the marina went like this, "I thought you brought the keys!", "Well, I thought you did." I'm laughing as I type this but it wasn't as funny at the time.
