The instructions on the cold starts were great . On my '95 Evinrude 88 SPL where is the fast idle position? Single lever throttle control. I thought I just had the neutral position. This could explain my hard starts.
If you two cables coming out of the control, it should have a fast idle. Do you you have a button/knob in the center? If so try pushing that to advance the throttle without engaging gears
WOW I never cease to be amazed. There is a button in the center on the control. When depressed it disengages the shifter and operates the fast idle. This will put an end to the cold weather start blues. Look out Strippers. Thanks TStubbs your the best!
