I have a Quicksilver Commander 2000 controller. There is a button on the lower part of the handle that is square shaped and says "throttle only". I am assuming this is the button to push in so I can have the fast idle function when advancing the throttle level forward. However, it doesn't stay in and the function doesn't work. Is there a kit or a fix available to allow this to work. A part # would be very helpful. Would a Quicksilver MSC-4000 controller work better as it has the Fast idle lever instead? Thanks. jeff.

Re: Fast Idle on Quicksilver Commander 2000

I have a 2000 with a round button and it's about a '00 to '02 vintage. Don't know about the square button.

I had a 3000 before (different boat) which is the external bulkhead (side) mount (whole unit and cables exposed) with a fast idle lever on top (that you pull up) and I liked it much better.

When I first got this boat my fast idle didn't work. A little lube and fiddling with it gave me some experience with it and it started working to my satisfaction. Had that not happened there would be a 3000 in my boat now.

Sorry, but I never took a 2000 apart so I am unfamiliar with the mechanism that holds the switch in. Since it snaps out when you go to N, there must be some kind of detent and a spring to cause it to function as it does. Maybe your spring broke.

Does it just waller around, or is there definite back pressure on the button when you push on it? If it just wallers around, might be a broken spring.

Never saw a 4000 so I can't comment.

Round button - square button, no difference in function

Holding the button 'in' with one hand while the control arm is moved forward should allow the control to freely rotate past the shift strait to the 'throttle'

Re: Fast Idle on Quicksilver Commander 2000

Well, I lied again. Yesterday I was at the boat and big as life is a big 3000 stamped on the front of my controller.

So I whip out my manual AGAIN and now I see that the 2000 has the lift lever at the rear for fast idle, key start switch under that, safety kill sw under that and no fast idle push button.......not needed with lift up fast idle lever.

Sorry for the lie and doubt if that helps you with your 4000.
