Sorry but don't know whether I should call them bumpers or fenders, but you guys know what I'm talking about.

Anyway the guy I bought it off of never used them cause he very rarely docked the boat. I find myself wanting to use them, but I have no place to attach them. Right now I am hanging them off the bimini hooks up on the window and on the back of the boat. I have looked at some boat shops and see some small eyelette type things that you screw into the fiberglass. That just sounds bad to me to be screwing something into my boat.

The only cleats I have are on the top of the bow and one on each side all the way to the back of the boat. I need something up further in the back and something in the middle.

Re: Fastening Bumper/Fenders

the cleats on my aren't good for fenders (bumpers are attached to a dock). the previous owner (or maybe dealer) installed the plates for the little eyelettes you mention. they work great. my lines are already set to the proper height....slide it in the slot and forget about it. slides out just as easily when it's time to go. for a long time i had no idea what the plates were even for, much easier now.

i'll use the legs to my tower if we're next to a high dock or anything except another boat.

I use a rope to secure my fenders, just long enough to hook over the stern cleat and the forward cleat on the port side. Fenders secured along the rope with a slip knot. Pull up to dock, out comes the rope...hook over the cleats and toss the fenders over the side. Pull rope and toss the rig up front in the storage area as you get underway.

Best thing by far I've found for attaching fenders to my LPX are these Folbe "Quick Tenders". I use a lot of different docks, and between the tides and the different types of construction they're always at different heights.

I tied my fenders on to the lines with nooses, it's probably not the politically or nautically correct way to do it but it looks good and works great for me!

I've tried a lot of the alternatives. My boat has the hidden cleats up front, in the middle, and in back. They're too low in most cases.

The previous owner of my boat had screwed the little eyelets to the side. I tried using them, found that the only good thing about them was the practice I got matching the gelcoat when I filled in the screwholes! Jim, DO NOT screw anything to the side of your boat!

The quick tenders let you instantly adjust the height of the fender. Tilt the rope to the outside, slide it to the right height, then tilt it back in and the grooves lock it down. The clips fit over the windshield, the bow rail, or the cleats.

4 fenders with ropes and Quick Tenders store very nicely inside my boat. I hang one at the back of the windshield, one at the front corner of the windshield, and one off the bow rail. Usually don't need one at the very front near the point of the bow.
