Re: faster prop

To correctly pitch a prop you need to know where your rpms are sitting. If you over or under rev you will kill a Merc quick. In general stainless props are faster than their aluminum cousins. There are many different blade types that can help with speed. With a 1975 35 hp ( at the crank and not the prop shaft) there is not all that much room to really change. Just not enough HP to work with.

Re: faster prop

keep in mind this site not a job to anyone other than admin5, but rather its helpful info(with experience in most cases). and there are some suggestions way off center given for the fun of it. you decide...
i advise that for a boat running a 35 the best thing you can hope for is less gross weight. pare down the jigs, worm sinkers, keep plugs out of livewells, carry frozen H2O instead of 10#ice, less tackle&rods. this is meant for a bassfisherman, who carries everything but the budweiser topwater plug. if this 35 is on a 12ft boat then you can do other things... ;)
just strictly on your topic, refer to the basics; Is your motor within max rpms at wot? if you're really serious about squeezing the last drop of performance out of your motor, you might want to post this in the o/b motors forum. since you could strap this motor to a tiny racing boat and probably do 60+mph...

Re: faster prop

Ofcourse a boat weight of some 150 lbs really would make the motor perform better but..

May I suggest you visit this page where you'll find a prop estimator and all the info you could ever need about props, hulls, hp and much more
