so i took apart the lower unit last winter and the clutch dog was in good shape, and yesterday i took the boat out and it started jumping out of gear.
i pulled the lower unit and took a look inside the gear case, and go figure the dog was all f-ed up. ill post some pics later. anyways, what did i do to make this happen? could it be i was putting it in gear at to high of an rpm?

Of course we don't know if you did that or not, but if you did it is very destructive to the dog and gear. The mostest worstest thing you can do is try to be gentle with it and "ease" it into gear. Putting a new dog against a worn gear won't last very long either. Worn out / loose shift linkage won't engage the dog all the way into the gear and that won't last very long either.

well i always put it in gear quickly and never ease it. the gear is slightly worn now, but not terribly... so i dont know. im going to turn the dog around and see what happens i guess.
