Fat or skinny, will you look?

I have rebuilt the the carbs (1988 GT200 Looper).
My idle is somewhere between fair and great; after rebuild I set the idle up to 750 to 800 rpms in the water in neutral, drop it into gear and the rpms drop down to 600. Now I am beginning to think that there is a lean condition,
I get a few coughs and sneezes and dies after idling into a no-wake area when trying to load the boat back on the trailer.

Is there an enrichment screw on the trottle plate behind the carbs that I may have missed?

Isn't the idle set in gear rather than neurtal?

By the thread title, I was thinking that this thread belonged in dockside chat.
Sorry can't help you with the setup.

Well at least you stopped long enough to look. I guess that is what you would call a teaser...

What is the engine history, did it run good before?
if yes then it might just be a slight air leak around the carbs.
Are all the butterfly's fully closed at idle?

Check for air leaks by spraying wd40 around carb seals when its sneezing.
Also try putting 2 fingers in ea carb throat, if idle smooths out thats the offending carb.

what are your idle jets 34 mids 47 did you put fiber reed valves in? maybe a little more information. mine was sneezing which indicates lean condition if you go down to about a 31 idle jet it will help your idle seems low should be about 850 or so in gear good luck phil:D

B-4 rebuild, the carbs loaded up real bad, during the rebuild I found one that the bowl gasket was in real bad shape around the tube. Now it idles fair, the sneezing is not real bad; but it is there, along with the sneezing when I put it into gear, it will idle, when I mash the gas, the sound is like a lack of fuel then dies. If I run the rpms up and down between idle and 1500 a couple of times then drop it into gear as it drops back down past 1000 rpms and then nail it, hang on cause you're leaving the area. I have only had this boat since 10 May 2010. So there is not any history for me to report about. I have done the link and sync, the butterflies look to be opening and closing at the same time as well as equally at WOT. Will try the WD 40 and figure thing this afternoon. Will report back. Thanks

It seems that the idle and intermedit were the sizes indicated on the parts list from the Johnson site, don't remember the actual sizes, I will check them again. I did not go past the throttle plates, so the reed blocks are stock, as far as I know. I will thinking that the idle was set in neutral in the water rather than in gear.

I will report back as soon as I check these things out...

Thanks again to ALL.

Still looking for this information; and I may have over looked it here in the forum... I would like to think that I am not the only one looking for the answers to this one.

Thanks again, in advance.
