Favorite hose clamp?

I'm replacing the crummy wire clip hose clamps on my Johnson 28hp, and I was wondering what to replace them with.<br /> All stainless screw band hose clamps are padestrian and clunky, but seem like the best to me. Unfortunetly, you can't seem to be able to find them for smaller diameter lines like recirc lines. What about (all plastic) Snappers? Those ones you clamp down with your fingers. I like the idea of that because you need no tools for it.<br /> Or is there some type I've never heard of that's better than either of these? <br />Thanks for your opinions!

We just inadvertenly found one of our plastic clamps just sitting there looking good, BUT it had broken from old age on the bottom. Our motor is a Evin 140, 1983. We used the newer automotive squeeze clamps, but they are hard to find. Mainly because the auto parts guys go by numbers rather than hose OD size.<br />Thinking about it, I guess 20 years for a plastic clamp isn't so bad. stainless steel is "clunky" and can't be used because of clearence in some cases, but SSis the best if there's room.

I have replaced almost every plastic clamp on my engine with these.<br />Be carefull, because you can crack the plastic fittings if you make them too tight.<br /><br /> http://www.mcmaster.com/ <br /><br />Look on page 202.<br />They are called "Smooth-Band Miniature Machine-Screw Hose Clamps".<br /><br />You can get the crappy plastic ones on page 211.<br /><br />They will ship them to you in one day usually.

Ok, so the plastic ones are no good. Thanks for the input Ted!<br />I think the ones AUGIDAWG mentions are like the automotive ones your talking about. I take it you don't mean those sheet metal squeeze clamp ones, the ones you grab with channel locks to loosen.<br />AUGIDAWG - I should have thought of McMaster-Carr. I found them on page 207, mabey they updated their catalog. Very cool - all the way down to 6mm which covers the little recirc lines (~7mm OD tube), and available 304. Those should do as long as I can keep away from the stainless braided hose page!<br />My engine was built in the early '60s, so fortunetly all hose fittings are brass.<br />Thanks!
