Hey guys I just got this thing running and have been adjusting my low speed idle needle to get the popping out and it has an extremly low rpm while idling. What I mean is it will barely keep itself running and if it hiccups one time its dead. So I got to looking and what Im wondering is if when in the start position on the handle the roller is supposed to be in line with the two lines under the flywheel. Mine is not and I have a picture if i can figure out how to post. Roller pic 2.JPG

No, those marks are for timing the points. There should be a mark scribed on the cam. The roller should just start to open the carb butterfly when it hits that mark. Adjust it by loosening the two bolts on the cam, and moving the cam in and out.

1976 20hp Johnson.

The markings on the tiller handle are just for reference (which way is fast/slow, etc) and to cover the two screws holding the handle together... ignore them.

If the idle is too low, increase the throttle and then set the idle mechanical stop screw on the gear that turns the vertical throttle rod.
