I've got a deal in the works for a used toon. It's a 20'Landau w/70 merc 1989. It's setup for fishing, depth finder, trolling motor, live well. You name it and the sob has it. Looks brand new and has 54 hours on the clock. Has been on a boat lift in a covered dock the whole time. Has been maintained yearly by marina techs and have the records to prove it. I can get it for $4500.
No trailer because I don't need one.
Is this a good deal or am I just blinded by my erection  I failed to mention it's owned by 2 lesbions
Is there anything in particular that I should look for? The floor and seats are perfect. I haven't owned an outboard in 20 years. It seems to run fine.
Any experience shared would be great!

Check the deck/floor carefully for delamination and soft spots.

Check this NADA link http://www.nadaguides.com/ for a market price on both the boat and motor.

Bob

Thanks for the link Bob_VT
I did check into it and it's pretty close to the price.
As far as the floor, it has indoor/outdoor carpet. What's the best approach? Check for lumps and soft spots?
Thanks again, I appreciate the input.

Check the underside of the deck and pay attention to the seams. You will be looking for soft spots.

Good luck w/it.

Bob

GarageGuy42

What was your point in stating that the boat is owned by lesbians? Do they take better care of watercraft?

In this new millenium, gay inuendo has lost most of it's shock value and really should have no bearing on marine purchase dicussions, IMO.

Back to your topic, was this boat kept covered when not in use?

Hi GG42,
Listen to Bob_VT on the deck. Reason being if the deck is bad, it's a pain to replace it. Everything has to come of the barge.
A couple more things to consider are the pontoons. Are they in good shape? Are they dented, pitted or patched. Next the motor, so far according to the service records it sounds good. I might do a compression test to make sure though. If everything is in good shape then I'd say it's a good deal.

Good luck :)

GarageGuy42

If all is well with the boat, I would buy it. I was looking for 2 years for a good used pontoon. I finaly broke down and bought new. I would check all of the plywood out and the furniture. If it checks out well make the deal. Some of the used ones I came across were just the deck and the helm with a motor, and they want $4500.

Re: Feedback new/used pontoon

Thanks all for your input.
I didn't mean to offend with the lesbian remark, but yes they do appear to take better care than most I have seen. The cover was kept off in the summer (because of mildew) but the seats are covered. The full cover was used in the winter.
The tubes aren't even scratched and barely have a scum line.
I've known these two "friends" for a couple of years now and have asked around the neighborhood about the toon and it was anually maintained and hardly ever used. I'm going to look at the floor closely also.
I'm going to finish the deal this weekend (150 mi. away) and make a final inspection and call the marina and see what they have to say.
Sorry if I PO anyone.

Sounds like a hot set-up GarageGuy. There's a couple of fur traders with a 'toon where me son keeps his and they take super care of it to.

c/6

Hooty
