i went from 13" to 14" tires, now how much space is needed or recommended between the fender and the tire? i have approx. 1" at the top and 1.25" on the sides.

Re: fender spacing

There should be room for a full bottom-to-top movement of the wheel. Ideally there should even be room for a dirt sticking to the thread.

When using the trailer with full load no hole or bump may make the tire meet the fender. Sideways you're fine, upwards it sounds pretty narrow.

Consider repositioning the fenders.

Re: fender spacing

I had 3" vertical clearance on my ezloader with 8" wheels. I put on 13" wheels and new fenders but maintained the 3" clearance...
