Hi everyone,, first post on here and looking to pick your brains for some information. I recently acquired my first boat and love it, . First time out with her was great, the engine, an old Mercury 3 cyl 60 hp. worked well.. I dont know anything about the engine,, age etc,, the serial number is #OB226371.. if anyone can help me find age and model it would be greatly appreciated as i now have a big big problem with the engine....

Went out yesterday for a days fishing and the engine wouldnt get up to even 3/4 throttle.. it just bogged down then i saw petrol gushing out from the front of the engine onto the transom,, suffice to say i turned it of straight away. as i was out to sea i had to try and do something, i removed the cowl and the cover over the carb, and found that the fuel was coming from the lower carb opening, and when i say gushing ,in a mile it spat out about 2-3 pints. I managed to limp the boat home, just, and i reckon i lost a good 2-3 litres into the catch area in front of transom,.....
So Gents.. i think i have a fuel problem lol,, massive over fuelling.. Can this be sorted out by cleaning the carbs out? or is the carb fubar`d?
As i dont know the age or model of the engine im struggling to find a carb gasket kit for the engine.. Heeeeeelllllllpppppp..

Many thanks for reading and hope someone can help me get back out in the water.

Re: few issues with my newly brought engine

big thanks Gerry. I managed to sort out the issues i had with it on my own,, stripped the carb off and stripped them down and cleaned all the crud out of them, engine is running sweet now, looks like the last owner lied about when it was last serviced as the fuel filter was that old it was broke down and letting all kinds of crap through,. all done and i was miles out on the welsh coast for the last few days,, well chuffed....
