I have a 1998 wellcraft 240se that i picked up last year with a 5.7 mercruiser non vortec outdrive is a alpha 1 gen 2. i just replaced the risers and rebuilt outdrive. I plan on putting it in a slip this year i have never done so before so i have a few questions it will be in salt water. Someone told me i need to install zincs ? there are currently none on the boat none on outdrive or risers. My question is what ones do i use and where exactly do they go on outdrive?

Yes, put 'em on.

I have the same boat, am not in saltwater, so I use a different ("softer") metal, and I have a VP SX drive on that boat, so location to install anodes is different. I don't understand putting them on risers - am I missing something?

I know of no zinc that goes into a riser, there are pencil zincs that go into the heat exchangers.
Go with all Zinc in salt
First time in a slip then add a second battery, a decent sized bilge pump

Most people:
place them for the trim tab on the rear on the drive
under the transom where a Mercathode would be
on the exposed SS ram pistons and if GEN II screwed into the ends of the rams.
also behind the prop is using a SS prop.
also on the front of the drive called the "horseshoe zinc" (GEN II)

As I understand it, the macerator is not supposed to work anyway, under almost all circumstances.

Water pump disabled? can you post some pics of your rig so you can get better help? suggest showing the whole thing then get closer to what you're asking about.
