i have a 1979 2650 fiberform hull id: fbg c1 23 2m 7 9c-26w dcs with a mercruiser 350/260 hp repowered in 95. serial # of 120439 with an alpha 1 (i bought rebuilt 3 years ago) that has a (16"?) alum. prop stamped:99 b&s 611. my research shows this boat to weigh approx. 5500 #. i am thinking of refreshing the engine. my thoughts were get a reman long block the exact same or maybe purchase a (very mild) stroker kit and rebuild myself. i am looking for reliability foremost as i already understand this is a lot of boat for a sb. and alpha setup. we mainly cruise to the beach (family trip) or maybe mystic, ct to block island, ri for the weekend (21 mi) 3 or so times a year. i will also be changing to a 3 blade ss prop. my thought is i can get a longblock for just under 2k or... maybe a stroker kit (900) machining and misc. parts for about the same, saving on labor.
thank you for your advice in advance. eric

i've heard of them from doing lots of google searches. have you ever bought an engine from them? i see they don't sell a stroked 350. think i could use a bit more torque...

Re: fiberform sb suggestions

like i said earlier i stroked mine to 383 and i am really happy with the results but working with my machine shop i made sure to keep the compression to 9;1 and i kept the cam mild . it runs great and does so on reg pump gas so i dont have problems with getting fuel on the lake . i definitly wouldnt get too wild with compression or cam as both will cause you problems with your everyday boating but the torque and horsepower difference on mine compared to a 350 vortec i had before are like night and day ... i would do it again
