Hi, I'm looking at purchasing this ski boat. Here's a photo of some damage on the boat, but don't know how serious it is. Anyone experienced in repair of this type? Would it get worse?

Re: fiberglass delamination?

Getting worse isn't the problem. If I'm looking at it correctly there's chunk of fiberglass hanging away from the hull, this means if the boat has been used since the damage was done it will have filled that side of the boat with water. The longer it's been that way, the more likely it is to have waterlogged foam and rotten wood.

The glass portion can be fixed fairly easily, the wet foam and/or rotten wood is a much bigger project.

Fiberglass is not waterproof so even if it's not cracked or missing, the exposed glass at a minumum has likely allowed some water intrusion. As was mentioned, you may have wet foam and more going on too.

While nothing is waterproof, fiberglass for all intents and purposes is. It can absorb small amounts of water, but water won't pass through it in a way that will cause problems in a trailer boat. This assumes that a crack or scrape isn't all the way through the laminate.
