Fiberglass hull deformation...

Hey all, i am in the tear down phase of a resto and i have the cap pulled from the hull and the hull is gutted to the stringers. Will the hull seriously sag and deform if the stringers are removed and not replaced for a while?

The hull is sitting supported by a V block about a foot rearward of the bow eye and on bunks.

Thanks for any input on the matter.

Re: Fiberglass hull deformation...

People in the past have built bracing for the hull when it is stripped out. Normally as long as it's only the hull and no additional weight it will retain shape. How long are you figuring? The worst thing that can happen is for a hook to form in the hull near the stern/transom.

Now fiberglass hulls that have been emptied of supports are fairly flexible and you need to pay attention that when you re-install the stringers that they are correct...... you attach the hull to the stringers and you might need a brace pushing up from the outside to keep it true until the epoxy/fiberglass sets.

If you do it one stringer at a time theres less chance for distortion, a bunker trailer helps.

I left my cap on so I could do all stringers in one shot.
