If not maybe I could just get some cans of automotive primer and paint really?

Automotive paint is usually more expensive that marine paint and must be sprayed on.
Marine paints can be "roll and tipped".

Re: fiberglass paint and primer?

I haven't had any actual painting experience with my boat yet, altho I just did order paint and it is currently at the marine store waiting to be picked up. However, from what I've read on this forum so far regarding paint - I would definately go with a marine paint like Interlux or maybe Pettit. I got Interlux and it can be rolled on. Check out some of the projects on here....couple guys used the roll method that turned out very well. The paint is self leveling which probably will give a smoother finish than trying to spray the paint (unless u are a very experienced painter).

Here's a link to topside paints sold in iboats marine store: http://www.iboats.com/Topside_Boat_Paint/dm/*******.624913241--**********.726499111--view_id.246647

Gud luck!

just for the heck of it I brushed some linterlux brightside paint on my stern, I used an 89cent wooden disposeable brush, not worth wetting a roller when I only bought one pint. The finish is awesome, never seen paint this good.
Its worth every penny.

Hello rjayy..

What boat do you have ?

Why I ask..is some boats you dont want to mess up with some of the more..lets say.. off paints..

You want top of the line..then use US paint 545 primer..and Awgrip or Imron. ( note the can says " for professional use only ! " ).

There IS a reason that these 2 paints are more expensive.
