Hey guys, I'm currently looking at purchasing an older Flare 14ft V-hull fiberglass skiff, mid 80's model. The hull gelcoat appears to be in good condition, however the inside of the boat is faded fiberglass and could use some sort of coating. Since this is my first venture into boating, I'm in need of advice. What type of coating would be best suited for the inside of the boat. Would gelcoating be required, or would an epoxy/paint be sufficient? Here are a few pics for reference. On a related note, I can't seem to find much information on these older Flare Boat skiffs. Thanks in advance!

Re: Fiberglass Skiff Gelcoat

you can paint it with oil base regular old rustoleum. it will hold up as well as any thing. it just need the paint for the sealer coat. i suggest either gray or tan. should be able to do it for $20.

nice fisherman. many builders of that type boat could not make it in the competition.

Thanks for the info. From what I can tell the boat seems pretty solid, I just don't have much build data about the boat since the manufacturer went out of business.

Hey guys, I went ahead and put a down payment on the boat. It's been stored indoors for some time, and the condition reflects that. Here's a quick picture.

Once the weather clears up next week I'm going to request a lake test before I complete the transaction. We already test ran the 15HP Yamaha 4 Stroke, and it ran very smooth, its a 2004 model. Any last minute advice on things to check? Thanks.
