Re: Fiberglass specification

all depends on if you are using epoxy or polyester/vinylester resin.

You can use CSM if you use poly/vinylester, otherwise you can use straight cloth/weave type glass with epoxy.

Most of us use 1708 biaxial in various widths depending on the project. 1708 is essentially 17oz of biaxial fabric stitched to 8oz of CSM ( mat ) It's really strong and you can get it in 10" wide "tape" or in roll width ( depends on whom you purchase it from )

Transoms seem to get the 1708 treatment the most for the strength and the build up of glass thickness and relative ease of use. I used it for my stringers in 10" widths to encapsulate them and tab them to the hull. I'll will be running more of it between the stringers and up the stringers before I close up the hull with the deck.

Re: Fiberglass specification

The easiest method is to replace what was there to begin with, this assuming it was the rotten wood that required the rebuild. After that you can upgrade to whatever you want, for the most part you won't see any changes or improvements though, because your making something stronger that was already strong enough.
