I am going to look at a boat tomorrow that has an 2001 Evinrude Fitch 115hp on it. Any opinions on this particular motor. I have read about the issues with the bigger ones.
In 99 or 2000 I drove a Ficht 115 that my dealers service manager had for the weekend on a customer complaint. While it had great top end it had a very poor hole shot. Before people start saying the prop was too big on it... It was propped to run 500 rpms above the recommended range. These V4s didn't have the troubles the 150 and 175s had. I had a 1998 150 Ficht and while it never croaked on me, it had all the 'upgrades' including a 2001 powerhead, I traded it off before the warranty ended. In all I would recommend looking for a different engine
The ficht problems were created by OMC. They limited to the 60 degree models prior to 1999. When Bombardier took over after the bankruptcy (2000) the engines got better, credible even. The V6 60 degree were the worst. Making sure these engines had all the factory upgrades would be a good thing, but in the long run, you may be better off looking elsewhere.
