hi, i own a ficht 150 Johnson model 1998 with all upgrades. the engines runs for 548 hrs never a problem. Last week i had a problem. We find out that is one of the pistons. so we will change the hole unit $2500 cost. My question is if that problem is a random one or if is the ficht known problems?

angelos - Fich motors are the subject of much discussion. Go to the red search at the top of the page & enter FICHT & read about their experiences.

If you are determined to keep your motor you do not have to change the powerhead just have the one hole bored out and get a new piston. You do need to find out what caused it or it may blow again.

I would be reluctant to put another powerhead on it if it was one of the original OMC batch.

Re: ficht 150 Johnson model 1998

Thanks SoLittle.
They offer me a complete unit from a motor with 10hrs model of 1998 for $1500.The owner change it because the engine has a problem and was under guaranty. I would like to hear your opinion. Is better to take that offer or just change the piston.
I think is better to go for a new unit instead of trying to repair one. But, I wonder if the powerhead unit was a part of the upgrade (or not?) package for a reason. It’s better to change it with a new unit one prior bombardier or it doesn’t matter?

Re: ficht 150 Johnson model 1998

Hi again solittle,

I finally decide to keep my motor (Johnson ficht 150 hp 1998 with all upgrades) and change the powerhead and pistons with new. Yesterday I had this offer. To trade my engine with a brand new Honda 4-stroke 90HP no extra cost. (My engine is 3 years old with 535 hrs – never had a problem until it blow the piston.).
My question is.. Keep my Johnson (they offer my one-year warranty for the new block) or proceed with the trade? (My boat is inflatable 5.90 meters)

I would appreciate your opinion.

Thanks in advance
