Hello,
I am a new member. I Have been out of the outboard scene for a couple of decades until
this summer. I am thoroughly familiar with the technology behind "older " 2strokes and
modern 4 strokes but since I haven't been paying attention until recently (I now own an
"older" 2 stroke) could someone give me a brief summary of what is a Ficht? It sounds
like a malignant medical condition that you don't want.

Re: Ficht

Hi, Jim.

Ficht is the name of a German company that developed a direct fuel injection system for 2 stroke engines.

OMC bought the technology and used it on their larger engines in the late 90's. It was dismally unreliable and contributed to OMC's downfall.

Since Bombardier bought out the Johnson and Evinrude brands, they have reengineered the system and dropped the Ficht name, now simply calling it Direct Injection. So far, the reengineered system appears reliable.

Re: Ficht

Thanks,
I see. Is that a high pressure injection into the combustion chamber or a low pressure injection into the intake manifold. Just curious.

Re: Ficht

Low pressure into the cylinder, Injector is in the cylinder head. The injector pressure in on the Bombi site. If it was a diesel it would be called a unit injector.

Re: Ficht

Thanks for all bringing me up to date. I checked a couple of sites on the web and now I know what it is. One last question. What aspect of the system failed in the early models? Or was it a multitude of problems?
