Hi

I've got a 1989 Evinrude 40hp VRO which looks like it has the CD2 unregulated 4amp alternator.

I'm rewiring the boat with two batteries via a Perko battery selector switch with the field disconnect contacts (in case it gets switched off while th engine's running).

As there is no regulator, do I need to bother with the field disconnect ? If the battery was disconnected at either high or low engine revs, would there be a volatge spike that could damage the other electrics ?

Thanks for all the help I've had in the past through this excellent forum.....

Paul

No field to disconnect on this engine, the field is a set of magnets.

Re: Field Disconnect with unregulated Alternators

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply, I had just checked the engine, and you're right, it's got an unregulated alternator. I then edited my question before seeing your reply !
So if the battery was disconnected while running, would there be a damaging voltage spike ? I guess not, but I'd just like to confirm it with more knowledgable people than myself...
Paul
