Field Goal Kickers

How important are field goal kickers in a game? If you watch many NFL games we seem to forget how many games are won with a field goal.

With a five point difference at the end of the Packers/Eagles game the two missed Eagles field goals made a big difference of who won. I would believe that the Eagles field goal kicker would be released from the NFL.

Even PAT kickers win and lose games. The Cowboys' last two games were lost by one (missed PAT) and won by one (made PAT) point.

You answered your own question but...

The field goal kicker is pretty much the highest scoring person on many teams. They are top 3 most important on the team for sure along with the QB and a good Line backer (QB on defense).

In OT you want a kicker who can make a 50 yarder. Most teams don't even try to score a TD in overtime after they are well within FG range. (At least this was the case before the new playoff OT rules)

The Packers former kicker who shall remain nameless because he is now a Queen, is the Packers all time leading points scorer. In any team it is usually that way.
