First time post here, tons of great info on this site.
I'll just say first that I should've caught the mistake when I bought the boat.
We bought a used 2000 Fisherman with a 225EFI. The boat is only rated at 200 on the placard. Yes I know it voids insurance if something happens just found out about that also by reading other posts on the forum. It had really bad Vent.. problem when we first bought the boat, it turned out the dealer had mounted the motor a notch to high. Dropped the motor helped but still had problems with vent...
Just dealt with the problem and used it for the last two years.
Yesterday I dropped off my dads old crestliner to have serviced and was talking to the dealer who is not the dealer we bought the boat from. I was asking for some parts for the 225EFI and after a quick Q&A session about my problems. I went home and got the measuring tape and dropped the motor down.
I assumed the motor was the right length, it wasn't.
It should be a 25" shaft not a 20"
So my options are use a jackplate which is the least expensive one but still the motor is to big for the boat.
Or sell the motor and repower with a different engine not really able to do that just to much $$$$
Some sidenotes
The motor never overheated, still runs great just sucks lots of gas.
Ventilation only happened when you hammered the throttle down and if you didn't trim down in turns.
A 2000 fisherman goes really fast with that motor and a 21" prop, 1.86 gears...60mph @ 2500MSL
The boat itself is great no issues with the boat it was built in 99 or 00 pre brunswick?
