i have a 1974 70 hp evinrude and i drained all the old gfear oil out with the drain plug at bottom. i put plug back in and unscrewed the fill plugh and the air vent. when i try to fill it i can get it to go in. oil comes out the air screw hole and if i put it in when iu take bottle out of fill hole it comes back out. it says it holds 25 oz in my manual but i cant get it in it. i got the motor tilted like it says and everything.

You'd be suprised how it's supposed to work, you fill it from the bottom:

You remove both screws, and with the engine in the down position, you fill from the bottom hole (drain/fill hole) until it comes out the vent hole. The oil bottle has a cone at the spout so you can do this. Then while holding the bottle in the fill hole, replace the vent screw. This will prevent the oil flowing out when you withdraw the bottle. Then withdraw the bottle and quickly install the fill/drain screw.

Use *new* vent/drain screw gaskets to ensure water stays out. The engine must be in the down position or you won't get the right amount of air trapped in the gearcase.

Good luck!

Make sure you replace the fill and drain plug gaskets/seals.
