When filling the lower unit on my 120 force I have 3 screws 1 at the bottom this is my drain, 2 at the top of the unit, 1 that says (vent) and the other I cant read. Its been painted over. I believe I fill from the one I cant read and I fill till it starts flowing out the vent hole. Am I right is this how its done?

Thanks

Re: filling lower unit question

That's correct! They should be labeled fill, vent and the drain is of course on the bottom.

Although the top front screw can be used to fill the L/U you should use the bottom hole from where you drained it. Use an oil pump and fill it from the bottom , filling it from the top will create air bubbles and take much longer to get rid of them . If you do fill it from the top it can take hours to force all the air out.

Re: filling lower unit question

.. yup to the above, fill bottom up. as laid out by one of the masters:

Changing the lower unit lube is pretty straightforward.

Draining.

1. Place drain pan under skeg.

2. Remove the upper vent plug.

3. Remove the lower drain plug.

Filling.

1. Place the lube bottle in the lower drain plug hole and pump the fluid in.

2. When the fluid reaches the top vent hole, it's full.

3. Replace the top vent plug.

4. Replace the lower drain plug.

Make sure you replace any seals on those plugs. Get some extras.

Get a manual, it's a great resource for future maintenance.
