I have a number of holes in my transom I drilled to test for wet wood. The largest ones are from a 1/4" drill bit. The good news is I only found discoloration/wet wood around where the drain hole was, as it appears the copper insert has split at one point and was never repaired. I was able to remove the wet section by boring out that hole to fit my new 1.75" livewell drain. A 2" hole saw removed the bad section, and then a week of drying out removed what little moisture was left along the edges, and I was able to seal the wood up well and then epoxy then new drain in to prevent it from happening again.

Now I need to seal up the test holes, what's the best way to fill such small holes?

The easiest I can think of is marine tex and a tooth pick/ piece of coat hanger. Use the tooth pick / hanger to push the marine tex into the hole. The hard part is getting it to go into the hole since the air in the hole needs somewhere to go. Holes that do not go all the way through are the hardest to fill. If you have left over epoxy and some type of filler to mix it with you could also use that. The biggest issue is the repaired holes will be a different color then the boat.
