I noticed today that the fin on the lower unit that is in front of the prop on my i/o is broken about half off. I have no idea how this happen and I don't know if it will cause any performance problems. The boat seems to handle fine. Any advise on what to look for or how to fix is greatly appreciated.

Mike

Well, unless it's really ate up, it shouldn't be a problem. It's real purpose is to protect the lower unit, which it did. Might try to file it down smoother. Or you could get one of these:

Skeggard

It really does nothing but create drag unless you hit something dead center in the water.

What it does do, however, is protect your prop when you tilt your engine (outdrive) down on the concrete floor while sitting on the trailer. It hits the floor first keeping your prop's tip safe.

Mark
