Finally did it!!!

A couple weeks ago I spec'd out and ordered my first custom firearm.

Never thought I'd see the day!!! I've always been a die hard Glock man. At the same time, though, I've really wanted a Colt 1911.

After much research, both hands-on, as well as incalculable hours online, my decision was finally final.:)

Wilson Combat. I had narrowed it down to Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, and Les Baer. Without ever having handled or fired one, there was no way I could settle on one.

I've handled and fired hundreds of firearms over the years. I've had a lot feel good in my hand. I've had several feel really good in my hand. Only a few which feel like they belong in my hand. The Wilson Combat not only felt like it belonged in my hand immediately, it almost feels like an extension of my hand. My left hand is instantly drawn to it for a two handed grip which I simply do not want to release. Smoothest firing weapon I've ever handled.

I ordered the Tactical Elite as the platform, with multiple upgrades and customizations. By definition, this could be called a semi-custom; but every Wilson Combat weapon is built to order. There are no assembly lines. Every weapon is hand built from the ground up, to exacting specifications by Master Pistol Smiths. Wilson Combat recently stopped casting small parts. Every part is now forged, billet, or ground.

...And then he waited.

... I just broke the 10th commandment.

That's a nice firearm. I've only handled one, never shot one. I did a project a few years ago and Wilson was involved. Got to watch a couple of guys go through some IDPA courses with them. I just drooled. Congratulations.

Good to see you around BTW. Haven't seen ya' in a bit.

Thanks!!!... For the welcome back too. I've been more busy than in the past... Doesn't really seem possible; but such is life. It's good to be back.

Thanks. Don't like Kimber's, though. I think Springfield makes a superior weapon for considerably less money. Call me crazy, but I don't consider the custom 1911 an upgrade from a Glock. I've got three which I'll never give up. The 1911 is something very different, and in this case, something very very special to me. Like a long awaited reward...:)

Yo, VH...bring it with you when you come!
Do have any idea how much I wish I could?

Question # 2: Do you have any idea what the current build time is for a Wilson Combat weapon? I'll give you a hint... 2 years!!!:(

I got put in touch with a dealer in Michigan who changed an order he's had since last June. I should have my 1911 this year.:) I'm hoping for my birthday in September; but that's not likely.

Wow. That's a bummer. At the same time, impressive how much the industry has had to try to change in the last few years.

Yeah, I suppose Any wait time, even a couple weeks or months is a bummer. However, these circumstances are pretty incredible. A two year build time per Wilson Combat... I speak with a dealer not too far from me to see if he may be able to bump that up a little, he refers me to a dealer in another state who's helped him in the past with build times... So the first dealer, instead of taking my money and making an honest profit, turns it over to another dealer who may be able to get my weapon built more quickly. This other dealer gets more than a year knocked of my wait time. Not because he had more pull or clout, so to speak; but because he orders 100-200 weapons per year. He had ordered a weapon chambered in 9mm last June (for sale in his store). He changed that order to a Tactical Elite .45 caliber with all of my custom specifications and upgrades. This was the earliest order he could change. The build should start some time in the next few months. I'm extremely fortunate. The tactical community is much like the boating community... On a very different level, of course.:)

Now that I'm thinking about it... "the industry" has been trying desperately to not change.;)

Re: Finally did it!!!

... gives you almost enough time to fine ammunition for it.

I'm surprised (still) at how tough it is to find even .22LR right now.

Congratulations. I'm still envious ;)

Re: Finally did it!!!

I'm Good On.45 Ammo Right Now. It's Easy To Find... Prices Are Still To High To Buy RighT Now, Though.

.22Lr Will Be Tough To Find Until The Preppers Calm Down. If The Poop Hits The Fan, And Society (As We Know it) Crumbles, Ammo wilL Be The Most Valuable ForM Of Currency. .22Lr Being the First Choice...

Thanks Again For The Congrats!!!

LOL ... I've only got a 1/2 box of "coin" left. :D

I've got plenty of 9mm, but I'm still surprised at how hard it is to get hold of.

Re: Finally did it!!!

22mag has DOUBLED in price the past few weeks, if you can find it all. I haven't even bothered looking for LR.

I'm shooting a cheap Ruger Single Six clone--a single action LR/WMR convertible revolver, a Heritage Rough Rider. And I only shoot WMR from it; never change the cylinder.

The price of all firearms has gone NUTS these days, but the old western style single (and even some double) action revolvers seem to be holding "okay" in price because they're not very sexy to a lot of people.

Congrats on the Wilson one of the few companies this day and time that do not compromise quality and the charm being an elusive firearms company over profit and mass production. Enjoy

Not that its a old western style double action revolver but I kick myself everyday for selling my first pistol was a double action 686 Smith & Wesson ... sold it because I didnt think it was very cool looking at 21 years old ................. 15 years later wish I still had it.
