Thanks everybody, especially Frank, for the help with my '87 Force 85. I got the boat with a really clean trailer and a Capri 17' bowrider in nice shape except for the upholstery for $700. I took it home and replaced the starter drive that had just failed and also the impeller. It was missing and I traced the problem to a CD module. I swapped the CD module inputs and got a spark, so I put it in the water but it still ran rough.
So I rebuilt the carbs (needle on top carb float was varnished shut) and rebuilt the fuel pump. Still ran rough, so I kept tinkering. I swapped modules and coils around and pulled off plug wires, and finally realized the CD module was giving a spark but not correctly or strong enough.
So I ordered a module, put it in this afternoon and it's running great! Again, thanks all for the help. I'm going out now with the Mrs. for a sunset cruise, and hope to take the kids skiing tomorrow.
